Collector Streets
 

Existing Collector Cross SectionCollector streets provide connections between residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural community areas to the arterial system. Collectors tend to carry fewer motor vehicles than arterials, with lower speed limits.

Existing collector cross sections include:

  • Same standards for all designs
  • Designed for 35 mph speeds
  • 6-foot bike lane, no protective treatments
  • 5-foot sidewalk
  • 12-foot vehicle lanes
  • 14-foot median
  • On-street parking not allowed
     

Proposed update:  Collector in a Town Center, Main Street or Station area

  • 6.5 ft conventional or buffered bike lane (optional green paint)
  • Designed for 25 mph speeds
  • 8-foot sidewalk, with buffer for light poles, benches, mailboxes, landscaping, etc.
  • 10-foot vehicle lanes
  • 12-foot median (optional)
  • Option for on-street parking
     

Proposed Update: Collector in Other Urban area 

  • 6.5 ft conventional or buffered bike lane (optional green paint)
  • Designed for 35 mph speeds
  • 6-foot sidewalk, with buffer for light poles, benches, mailboxes, landscaping, etc.
  • 11-foot vehicle lanes
  • 12-foot median (optional)
  • Option for on-street parking only in residential areas
